Biography

Seiko Kitayama was born in 1982 and studied painting at Tokyo Zokei University and Musashino Art University.  She started Performance Art in 2008 and participated in festivals and residency programs in India, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Mexico, America, China, Singapore, Philippines, Serbia, Czech and UK. When she performed together with audiences, she got interested in building interactive relationships and compassion between artist and audiences.  The  theme of her work was about suppression of society and resiliency between you and me.  
Also, she has ever produced her original performance events collaborated with performance artists in  Japan and other countries. In 2020, she organized the event named "At home", which she  makes  performance with various artists in her house. In this COVIT-19 situation, she has tried transferring her thoughts that have been developed by doing live performances into video performance. She is  a member of a group, KOUI-IZEN, in which we do durational performance event staying in various places in Japan. Also the member of a group, IPAMIA ( Independent Performance Artist's Moving Images Archive ), which makes archive and study of performance art .

1982年、長野県生まれ。東京造形大学絵画専攻卒業。武蔵野美術大学通信課程油画科卒業。在学中、学生自主運営スペースの運営・地域アートプロジェクトに携わる。2008年よりパフォーマンスアートを始め国内及び、インド、バングラデシュ、台湾、メキシコ、アメリカ、中国、シンガポール、フィリピン、セルビア、チェコスロバキア、イギリスのフェスティバルに参加。またパフォーマンスアートイベントを自主企画、共同企画も行う。
自分自身の体験から、わたしとあなたと社会の関係に生じる抑圧とレジリエンスをテーマとしパフォーマンスし、観客と協働する中で提示される関係性とそれにより起こされる感情を作品化してきた。最近は自宅や自然の中など自分が育ち過ごしてきた環境の中でパフォーマンスをしている。ライブでパフォーマンスを行ってきたが、コロナウィルスの蔓延の中、ビデオパフォーマンスの展開を模索している。
オープンに参加を呼びかけ、様々な場所で同時多発的にパフォーマンスを行う「行為以前」のメンバー、パフォーマンスアートのアーカイブ化と研究を行う「ＩＰＡＭＩＡ」（Independent Performance Artist's Moving Images Archive.）メンバー。
