Biography

Seiko Kitayama was born in 1982 and studied painting at Tokyo Zokei University and Musashino Art University.  She started Performance Art in 2008 and participated in festivals and residency programs in India, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Mexico, America, China, Singapore, Philippines, Serbia, Czech and UK. When she performed together with audiences, she got interested in building interactive relationships and compassion between artist and audiences.  The  theme of her work was about suppression of society and resiliency between you and me.  
Also, she has ever produced her original performance events collaborated with performance artists in  Japan and other countries. In 2020, she organized the event named "At home", which she  makes  performance with various artists in her house. In this COVIT-19 situation, she has tried transferring her thoughts that have been developed by doing live performances into video performance. She is  a member of a group, KOUI-IZEN, in which we do durational performance event staying in various places in Japan. Also the member of a group, IPAMIA ( Independent Performance Artist's Moving Images Archive ), which makes archive and study of performance art .

北山聖子の作品は、わたしとあなたと社会の関係に生じる抑圧とレジリエンスをテーマとし、観客と共にパフォーマンスする中で示される関係性とそれにより起こされる感情を作品化してきた。最近は自宅や自然の中など自分が過ごしている環境の中で1人でするパフォーマンスや長時間のドゥレーショナルなパフォーマンスをすることも多い。

北山聖子は1982年、長野県生まれ。大学では絵画を専攻し、在学中には学生自主運営スペースの運営・地域アートプロジェクトに携わった。2008年よりパフォーマンスアートを始め国内外のフェスティバルやグループ展に参加。2008年よりパフォーマンスアートを始め国内及び、インド、バングラデシュ、台湾、メキシコ、アメリカ、中国、シンガポール、フィリピン、セルビア、チェコスロバキア、イギリス、タイの企画に参加。近年の主に参加したものとして、「いざ、真夏のパフォーマンス。」（2023、工房親）、「blurborders2023」(2023、タイ)、「見えない経験、組織されない身体」（2020、さいたま国際芸術祭　美術と街巡り事業）、「Responding International Performance Festival and Meeting(R1)」 (2018、東京、福島)、「SIPAF」（2017、マニラ）、「谷雨西安行為芸術祭」（2017、西安）、「Performance Resources Orchestra」前田譲企画、シンガポール（2017）。
またパフォーマンスアートイベントを自主企画、共同企画も行う。近年の企画として、「いざ、真夏のパフォーマンス。」（2023、工房親）、「At Home」（2020、自宅）「Responding: International Performance Festival and Meeting(R1)」 (2018、東京、福島)など。2017年から2021年まで「行為以前」に参加。自然の中での同時多発的なパフォーマンスを断続的に行った。2018年より「ＩＰＡＭＩＡ」（Independent Performance Artist's Moving Images Archive.）のメンバーとして80年代以降の日本のパフォーマンスのアーカイブ化に尽力している。
